- USA men and women both win NORCECA World Championship qualifying event in Colorado Springs
Kylin Munoz serves against Honduras for Team USA -USA Volleyball |
In her first international competition with the US National Team, recent Washington graduate Kylin Muñoz played a significant role
in Team USA’s easy victories over the weekend.
USA won all four of its matches—all 3-0 sweeps—against national
teams from Guatemala, Honduras and Panama. USA played Panama in both the preliminary round and in the
championship match.
Muñoz, playing opposite, had her best performance against
Honduras, starting all three sets and finishing the match with 13 kills and 2
aces. Muñoz saw action in all four weekend matches, alternating at opposite with
former Texas star Bailey Webster. Muñoz
was particularly effective at the service line throughout.
11 Team USA players completed their final year of college last
fall. The 12th player was high school junior Hayley Hodson, a Stanford
recruit.
By winning the NORCECA tournament, USA qualifies for the World Championships, September
23-October 12 in Italy.
The USA men’s team
had similar success, winning four straight 3-0 sweeps to qualify for the men’s
World Championships August 30-September 1 in Poland.
No surprise. Always expected Kylin to do well. She's a great athlete and a sweet girl.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know she could serve that well.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see her continuing in volleyball. Also nice to see that she gets to serve for USA unlike the Huskies last season. She had one of the better jump serves on the team but due to the rotation rarely did.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for Ky.
ReplyDeleteKylin is a very talented volleyball player. If you expect more and give her the opportunity, she will produce!
