Two Washington state schools--Bellingham's Western Washington University and
Ellensburg's Central Washington
University--have been included in the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's
Volleyball Tournament.
The 16 teams in the Western Region of the 64-team 2013 NCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament |
Western (23-3) is seeded fifth in the West, and will face #8
seed Sonoma State (25-5). Central
(15-11) is the West's 8th seed, and will meet top seeded Cal State San Bernardino (25-5). Both matches are December 5 on the
CS San Bernardino campus.
WWU---ranked 10th in the latest AVCA DII national poll--has
won its past nine matches, dropping just two sets in that span. The Vikings are
led by Samantha Hutchinson (Curtis
HS), who ranks second in the nation in digs per set (6.9); Kayla Erickson (Peninsula HS), who ranks fifth nationally in
hitting percentage (.385); and Taylor
Dillard (Fife HS), 8th nationally in assists per set (11.8)
The Vikings were national runners-up in 2007; head coach Diane Flick is in her 14th season and
has been named conference coach of the year seven times.
Central (15-11) finished tied for fourth in the Great
Northwest Athletic Conference. Kaely
Kight (Mead HS) is 17th nationally in digs per set (5.49). The
Wildcats rank 29th in team blocking, led by Erin Smith (Selah HS) with 1.12 blocks per set. Mario Andaya has been CWU’s head coach
since 1996.
