NCAA | Washington ranked #5 in season’s first volleyball coaches’ poll

Four Pac-12 schools in top 8; Texas picked #1

The 2013 season’s first coaches’ poll, conducted by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), shows the coaches’ respect for the Pac-12 and Big Ten conferences.

Stanford (#3), Southern California (#4), Washington (#5) and Oregon (#8) were each top ten picks, as were four Big Ten schools: Penn State (#2), Michigan (#5), Minnesota (#7) and Nebraska (#10). Texas (#1) of the Big 12 and Florida (#9) of the SEC are the other top ten selections.

Texas is the defending national champion; Oregon was the national runner-up. The Longhorns defeated Michigan in the semifinals, while the Ducks beat Penn State.

UCLA of the Pac-12 was picked #12; California also received a few votes.
