Huskies in top
3 of all national polls and RPI
As often happens late in the season, the Volleyball Magazine media poll, the AVCA coaches’ poll and the NCAA’s RPI rankings start to align. Washington is now a solid #3 across the
board.

The RPI starts to diverge after the top 7. The formula
relies heavily on the record of a team’s opponents (and its opponents’
opponents), penalizing those who have not played a particularly tough schedule.
That’s why the RPI is generally unimpressed with the fact that Colorado State is still undefeated. It’s
also why it remains smitten with Creighton,
a team that dared play (and lose to) California,
UCLA and Hawai’i, with victories over BYU,
Cal State Northridge and Kansas.
This week, for fun, here’s a reminder of the teams who managed
to defeat the top teams in the various rankings. Notice, in particular, how
often Texas, Penn State and Washington
show up in that column …

Seattle is one of ten national voters in the weekly Volleyball Magazine
Division 1 Women’s Volleyball Poll.
NOTES:
- Former Washington setter Jenna Hagglund was on the roster, but Alicia Glass got most of the playing time as the US National Team was swept 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-20) by Brazil in the opening round of the FIVB Grand Champions Cup in Nagoya, Japan. Most of the USA roster is comprised of athletes who did not participate in last summer’s London Olympics.
