Coaches rewarded Nebraska
with this week’s number one position in the AVCA coaches' poll after the Cornhuskers battered
previously-undefeated (and slightly overrated) Illinois. Shockingly, two coaches still pegged Illinois at #1. That
kind of attitude really makes the credibility of these polls suspicious.
Volleyblog Seattle
continues to strongly believe that USC
is the nation’s top team … they’ve rolled through the nation’s top conference,
and it’s downright silly to rank them below Cal week after week.
#10 Washington expected to drop after its setback at Oregon,
but the Huskies’ four losses (USC, Cal, Stanford, Oregon) are
nowhere near as bad as the four suffered by #9 Texas (Minnesota
[twice], Florida and Oklahoma.) We’ll see how the Longhorns
match up against #14 Iowa State this
weekend, its last tough opponent in an otherwise very weak conference.
Finally, seven-loss Minnesota
is—as usual—overrated, and San Diego
is underrated.
My top 10: 1. USC;
2. Nebraska; 3. California; 4. Illinois;
5. UCLA; 6. Stanford; 7. Washington;
8. Hawai’i; 9. Penn State; 10. Purdue.
