NCAA | Washington climbs to #2 in latest media volleyball poll

Huskies one of only 11 undefeated teams remaining; lead nation in service aces

After just three weeks of nonconference play, only 11 Division 1 teams (out of 328) remain undefeated. In the Pac-12, that list includes Washington, Washington State and Utah. USC, Arizona State and Cal all lost their first matches of the season over the weekend.

Other undefeateds include Ohio State, North Carolina, Missouri, Colorado State, American, Jacksonville, Buffalo and DePaul.

This week’s NCAA D1 statistical rankings are incomplete, since last weekend’s stats for several schools—including Washington—are not yet included. Even so, Washington is number one in the nation in aces per set, at 2.5. The Huskies are hitting .339 as a team, clearing placing them in the top ten. UW is also among the national leaders in assists per set (13.2) and blocks per set (2.6).

This season’s fourth weekly Volleyball Magazine media poll elevates Washington to #2, including one first-place vote. The Huskies leapfrogged USC, Texas and Minnesota in this week’s tally. Six Pac-12 schools are in the media top 20, though how Oregon stays in there remains a mystery. Volleyblog Seattle seems to be the only voter who truly believes in Arizona State.
