Krista Vansant took 52 swings this weekend in the State of Illinois. She connected on exactly half of those swings for kills, and committed just a single hitting error in seven sets as #3 Washington defeated Illinois 3-1 Friday night and Loyola-Chicago 3-0 Sunday afternoon.

Vansant’s combined .483 hitting percentage—plus 7 services aces (6 against Loyola) and 20 digs earned Washington’s All-American outside hitter Offensive Player of the Week honors from the Pac-12.

The Huskies lead the conference in team hitting percentage (.339) and service aces (2.48/set). For the preseason, Vansant averages 3.85 kills/set, sixth best in the Pac-12. Four Huskies—Cassie Strickland (#2) Jenni Nogueras (#3), Vansant (#5) and Jenna Orlandini (#7)—rank in the top seven in aces.

This is the third time Vansant has won the award. Last week, teammate senior libero Jenna Orlandini was selected Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week.

NOTES:
  • Arizona State sophomore setter Bianca Arellano was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week. USC’s Elise Ruddins was Freshman of the Week.
