SPU drops first-round NCAA D2 Tournament match

In San Bernadino, Seattle Pacific University came up short in the first round of the NCAA Division II volleyball tournament. The Falcons, seeded 5th in the west region, lost 3-1 to 4th seeded BYU-Hawaii. Set scores were 21-25, 21-25, 25-15, 28-30).

SPU (21-7) earned four set points in the fourth set, but could not push two points ahead. BYU-Hawaii (19-3) scored the final three points of the match, the last on a service ace.

Lindsey Wodrich (Richland HS) led all hitters with 29 kills (.214); Cailin Fellows (Edmonds-Woodway HS) added 13 kills (.125) and Nikki Lowell had 10 kills (.286). Setter Anna Herold (Shorecrest HS) totaled 26 assists. Herold, Wodrich and Shelby Swanson (Kamiakin HS) were each named first team all-GNAC this week.

Chris Johnson was named Coach of the Year--the fourth time in seven years Johnson has won the honor.
