Washington (15-0)
gets 12 first-place votes.
For the third week in a row, five Pac-12 teams are among the top eight in the weekly coaches’ poll is conducted by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
For Huskies’ fans, this week’s
poll is a mixed blessing.
- #1 Penn State barely escaped against a mediocre Illinois team, and has an earlier nonconference loss to Oregon State.
- Most great coaches will tell you, however, that they’d rather be #2 at this point of the season. Top billing adds an unwanted bull’s-eye.

#3 Nebraska has no business moving to number three: the Huskers barely
beat lowly Indiana, while #4 Stanford knocks off previously-unbeaten
Oregon.
#8 Hawai’i stays in the Top Ten despite playing just good enough to be
on top of a very mediocre conference. Plus: that loss to Cal … at home.
#13 San Diego, meanwhile, is leads the way in a much tougher
conference.
And, finally, it’s time for
coaches to pay more attention to the bottom of the rankings: Stop voting for Illinois (8-8), Iowa State (9-6) and Pepperdine
(the Waves have lost 3 of their last 4, and 4 of 6)!

I find it hard to believe some big bias doesn't exist as the Big 10 (12 teams) has 7 ranked in top 25, while Pac 12 (12 teams ) only has 5. Surely Ore St deserves to be ranked, rather than Purdue or Illinois or Mich St.
ReplyDeleteIllinois (8-8) simply does not belong on a Top 25 list. Ohio State is questionable. Purdue and Michigan State probably belong, but at the bottom.
DeleteOregon State's loss to Cal--a sweep at that--did not help its cause.
Miami, FL (14-3) and Texas A&M (14-2) are probably screaming louder than anyone this week ...
