This week’s NCAA
D1 volleyball stats are out, and the
numbers reveal a bit of why undefeated Washington is rated second in the nation in this
week’s AVCA/Sports Import coaches’
poll.
- #1 in winning percentage (the only undefeated team in Division 1)
- #1 in fewest total hitting errors (192—the only team in the nation with less than 200)
- #2 in blocks per set (one of only 7 teams with at least 3 blocks per set)
- #3 in hitting percentage (one of only 7 teams hitting above .300)

in assists per set (12.98), 51 in kills per set (13.8) and 313 in digs per set
(11.72). Keep in mind that, if you serve well, and block well, you don’t get
many dig opportunities!

Is there someone, I mean anybody besides close friends and relatives, anyone on the planet who cares about volleyball? It's a fun game to play at the local Y or at the beach with some friends, but just because Title IX mandates women's sports doesn't mean that anyone cares. Go Dawgs! er Cougs! er whoever! blah
ReplyDeleteAccording to Volleyball.org, over 46 million Americans play volleyball and over 800 Million worldwide. So I'd say a quite a lot of people care. I also remember reading something that stated that volleyball was the number one sport for female participation in the U.S. It sounds like your experience is at the rec level or backyard barbeque and you may not have the knowledge to really understand the game. You should take the time to watch high level volleyball. There are some amazing athletes.
