Pac-12 | Football bounces volleyball’s biggest match of the season (so far)

Pac-12 Network will not broadcast showdown of nation’s only two undefeated volleyball teams; Oregon says it will stream #2 Washington @ #2 Oregon on October 13

Next Saturday, October 13, the two last-place teams in the Pac-12 North—Cal and Washington State—will play each other in football. At about the same time, the only two undefeated Division 1 teams in the nation—Oregon and Washington—will face off in volleyball.

The football game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network. The volleyball match will not.

Oregon’s volleyball sports information director tells Volleyblog Seattle that the match will be available via an Internet stream at the GoDucks.com live portal: http://pac-12.com/live/goducks.aspx.

We’re still waiting to hear whether the stream will be free. We’ve also asked who will be doing the play-by-play and color. And we don’t know whether replays of the match will be available, either on the Pac-12 Network or GoDucks.com. [At the moment, it’s not on the Pac-12 Washington schedule.]

There’s still a bit of volleyball to be played before the Ducks/Huskies matchup.

Tomorrow night, Washington travels to Utah. Although the Utes are still winless in Pac-12 play, they gave Stanford all it could handle last weekend. On Sunday, the Huskies are in Boulder, where the Buffs are having a better-than-expected season. Next week, Washington travels to suddenly-dangerous Oregon State, whose only four losses have come to ranked or highly-regarded teams (#14 Kansas State, Miami, #2 Oregon and #6 UCLA). And, of course, there’s that Beavers win over #1 Penn State.

Oregon is now 14-0 after defeating California last night in Berkeley, 3-1 (the Ducks hit just .205 against a struggling Bears team.)

Tomorrow night, Oregon travels to #7 Stanford, for what will be the one-hundredth live event on the fledgling Pac-12 Network.

Because of football's dominance, volleyball teams in the SEC and the Big-12 rarely schedule Saturday matches any more. Don't be surprised if the Pac-12 heads in that direction as well.
